But why should you care?
Hi, my name is Toby, and this is why you should care.
I obsess over art, I am deeply interested in politics, I am ambitious in my creative pursuits, and as of late I have been writing, reporting and storytelling for the Kalgoorlie Miner.
I love writing in all senses of the word. I love writing stories, from journalistic, to creative. I love writing analysis, whether it be on politics, fiction, music, sport, or culture. I am engaged and inspired meaningful commentary, and I have a genuine desire build knowledge-based perspectives on the things that interest me. Literature-oriented fields have always clicked with me far more than anything else, and I intend to use my writing as much as I can, regardless of my job title.
Speaking of job titles, I have had the privilege of working as a regional journalist for the Kalgoorlie Miner starting in July, 2026. Although I enjoyed my time interning a communications role, and finding my footing throughout my uni reporting days certainly yielded some memorable stories, the work I have produced throughout my stay in the Goldfields is by far the proudest of my young career. From art reviews, to community spotlights, policy announcements to council backlash, one really gets to cover it all as a budding journalist. My writing, knowledge and confidence have all improved throughout this experience.
Out of all the things that inspire me, I have a particularly strong passion for music. Both as a prospective creative myself and a deep appreciator of the greats, music enriches each and every day I spend on this earth. I believe this interest, combined with my love of filmmaking, gives me an edge in producing my own audio-visual productions. In a two month window of my time at the Kalgoorlie Miner, I have produced 24 pieces of video content - ranging from news reports, to footy highlight reels, to documentaries - all for the organisation’s Facebook page. This content, which has been independently shot, edited, and directed by myself, has totalled over 460 thousand views for the company. My interest in multiple artistic fields is fuel for motivated, high-quality journalism. I believe passion is often a qualifier for success, and having the privilege of incorporating my interest in sonic and visual art into multimodal content is something I am certainly passionate about.
There is nothing like self-expression. As daunting as it can be to actually put your work out there, I believe that being able to do it is unparalleled in its importance. This website is effectively a hub for all of my output - journalistic, creative, or otherwise. I am excited to show the world all of the stuff I have been working on throughout my adult life, because who knows, there might just be something in here that scratches an itch.
This is me!
Also me…
